3D Scanning
We use the KSCAN-Magic 3D scanner with a resolution of 0.2 mm. Because of the high accuracy requirements in the 3D digitization of cultural relics, we generally use a resolution of 0.2-0.1 mm for 3D scanning. The process of obtaining the 3D model of this vase is relatively simple. We scan its top and bottom sides in 3D, stick 4-5 markers at the bottom and the bottle mouth, and splice them in the 3D software ScanViewer. After splicing, import it into Geomagic Wrap software, use “Shell” function to thicken the vase, and do some routine post-processing. Because we use a high resolution, even the text and lines on the vase can be scanned very clearly. We need to smooth these lines in ZBrush software, because in order to ensure the efficiency of mapping, it is impossible to achieve the absolute match between the text on each photo and the lines of the 3D model.
Photograph
The camera we use is Sony α7RIII. Because the texture of this vase is less and relatively concentrated, and the other parts are mainly white, we can only take the texture part, and the other parts can be filled later, so the number of photos will be reduced and the workload can be reduced. We shot three circles of bottle texture, plus two bottom textures. If we don’t want to fill the other parts later, we must put a patterned pad on the bottom of the vase to shoot. If not to do so, it is likely to have some result problems.
3DeVOK Mapping Software
After the preparation of the 3D model and photos, we will map the 3D texture in the 3DeVOK Mapping. The process of this vase is basically the same as that of the vase in our tutorial. The bottle photos are a group, and then we can map a single image at the bottom. The whole mapping process ends in 20 minutes. When editing the mosaic line, you only need to pay attention to the clarity of the pattern and font, and other places can be solved quickly in the later stage. In the PS, you can either use the stamp function or select the left parts and fill in the white color. If the stamp function is used, it is necessary to avoid blurring the font edge.
